Can I make a donation online with my credit card?
Yes! Help Educate accepts donations through Google Checkout and Paypal. We prefer Google Checkout because the service does not charge a donation processing fee. You can make donations on our donate page.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes! Help Educate is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. After making a donation, you will receive a receipt that can be used when you file your taxes.

How will my donation be used?
Your donation is used to fund Nicaraguan college students’ educations. A small percentage (less than ten percent) is used to cover administrative expenses.

What is included in Help Educate’s administrative expenses?
Administrative expenses include: website fees, donation processing fees (PayPal charges a small fee to process donations), legal fees, money transfer fees to participating Nicaraguan Universities, promotional materials, and postage.

How are scholarship payments distributed?
Scholarship funds are disbursed directly to participating Nicaraguan Universities where our students are enrolled.

How are students selected for scholarships?
Please refer to our scholarship program page for details about the selection process.

Do Help Educate’s staff get paid?
No, members of the Help Educate Board of Directors, Management Team, and Nicaraguan Selection Committees are 100% voluntary. They receive no financial compensation for their work.

What is Help Educate’s organizational history?
Help Educate was founded by John Kuehnle in 2003 while he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Nicaragua. John identified the lack of opportunities for Nicaraguan youth to obtain higher education as a limiting factor for Nicaragua's future. Please refer to our history page to learn more about the evolution of Help Educate.

How can I support a local fundraising event?

Does Help Educate collaborate with other organizations
Yes, we currently plan to collaborate with FUNDEMUNI (Foundation for the Development of Women and Children) in Ocotal, Nicaragua for local administrative and selection committee support. We are open to forging future strategic alliances with other organizations.

Where is Help Educate’s organizational base?
We are legally based in Deleware and our central processing center is in Massachusetts; however, members of our Management Team, Board of Directors, and Selection Committees live throughout the United States, Nicaragua, Panama, and Sweden.

Who are the members of Help Educate's management Team and Board of Directors?
Help Educate's Management Team consists of four returned Peace Corps Volunteers who completed their service in Nicaragua between 2003 and 2008. The Board of Directors consists of professionals from around the globe who bring high levels of expertise in diverse fields to the Help Educate team. Does Help Educate offer scholarships in countries other than Nicaragua?
We currently only operate in northern Nicaragua. In the future, we may expand our operations into other Latin American countries.
